On February 23, along with that the final 10,000 m3 concrete is cast into the designated areas of No.3 Main Pier by concrete placing boom, it marks the successful completion of f large volume concrete casting for pier capping of No.3 main pylon pier for Gong’an Yangtze River Bridge under Mengxi Huazhong Railway Lines undertaken by MBEC to win the valuable time for constructing No.3 Pier to be over water level prior to incoming flood season of Yangtze River.

Gong’an Rail-cum-road Yangtze River Major Bridge, having total length of 6317.822, is the first heavy load railway bridge across Yangtze River in China, of which main bridge has a total length of 1078m and adopts double tower steel truss cable-stayed bridge type. The pile capping of No.3 Main Bridge Pier is a circular shape with plan dimension of 58.4m×33.6m. The critical working procedure is to cast concrete which features by large volume, complex working procedure, high-technology construction technology in winter season, and difficult construction etc. For purpose of constructing pile capping, it is required to fasten 1000t rebar, erect 12000m cooling water pipes, cast 10628 m³ concrete about 1771m² and 6m thick. It is planned to cast concrete for two times, that is to say, the first time is to cast 3.2m about 5700m³ and the 2^nd time is to cast about 2.8m about 4928m³.

In order to ensure the successful casting for pier capping of No.3 main pylon pier for Gong’an Yangtze River Bridge, MBEC Project Office has painstakingly organized and carefully organized the construction process. The workfront for North Bank has established the temporary commanding office for construction No.3 Pier Capping to convene the qualified staffs to coordinate and settle all the difficulties encountered during concrete casting at setting time everyday.
